Yvena has lived most of her young life at the Maranatha House Orphange. As long as we’ve known her, she’s been one of the quieter, shy ones. Now, at at the age of 19, she is a part of our Transitions Program. She, along with the other young women in the program, began cooking school in the Spring of 2017. Due to her shyness, she really struggled in class. She was very afraid to mess up in front of her classmates. Her teacher and our Transitions Coordinators caught on to this, and graciously spent time with her, reinforcing her worth, value, and abilities. Now, months into the cooking school, Yvena’s confidence is starting to show. Her teacher and Transitions Coordinator encouraged her to continue practicing her recipes at home, which has helped tremendously. Just a few weeks ago, one of our Transitions Coordinators received a note from her teacher saying that she is EXCELLING in class! While this may seem small on the surface, this growth in confidence has the power to literally change the trajectory of her life!
