“We do not get to choose how we start out in life. We do not get to choose the day we are born or the family we are born into, what we are named at birth, what country we are born in, and we do not get to choose our ancestry. All these things are predetermined by a higher power. By the time you are old enough to start making decisions for yourself, a lot of things in your life are already in place. It’s important, therefore, that you focus on the future, the only thing that you can change.”

We want to wish a very Happy Birthday to miss Marie Gona who will turn 14 on November 11th. She is in 7th grade at Mission of Hope School this year and is excelling in all of her studies. It is said that Marie Gona, "excels in all her school work and all that she does around the house." She may excel at everything but she is particularly fond of Math and Physics!! Since she is very strong academically, the other students at the Maranatha House often come to Marie Gona for help with their studies. And when she's not helping others with homework, you can find her braiding the other girls' hair, or helping around the house. We are so proud of this young woman!
-Jadyn and Brady-
Jadyn and Brady are Kidstarter siblings who decided they wanted to make an impact in the world and use their creativity and care to do so. They believe that, "the more people you make happy, the better the world is. If you're nice to them, they're nice to you." Jadyn recently acquired a sewing machine to sell plush pillows to fundraise for their Farm in a Barrel Kidstarter project. This project brings sustainable chicken farming to people in Ghana, and helps provide families with the tools necessary to start their own small farm. In addition to fundraising online, Jadyn plans to sell stories, home-made pillows and baked goodies. Brady will use his creativity and energy to draw comics and get sponsors for exercising.
Help support Jadyn and Brady today!

- HAITI UPDATES -
Hurricane Matthew touched down on the island of Haiti in the beginning of October. We are grateful to report that the village of Titanyen, where the Maranatha House is located, was hardly impacted. The largest damages were to cell towers and a few leaky roofs. However, the southern coastline was severely damaged. Even though the storm has passed the worst is not over yet. Cases of Cholera are now on the rise due to the extreme rain and flooding. Please continue to pray for those who were affected by this storm! Ncompass is partnering with on-the-ground organizations who are working directly in the relief and restoration effort. If you would like to help provide funds for the relief effort in Haiti, you can do so by clicking the button below.
We also have a few Kidstarters who are motivated to help the relief work in Haiti. If you would like to empower them to bring clean water or new homes to those in need, CLICK HERE.
More improvements are being made to Maranatha House Property. We just finished paving the entire yard! This not only provides a smooth surface for the kids to run and play, but it is sloped to drain into the garden which will prevent any standing water.
The outer wall is being skim-coated as we speak. In December, Rich Jenkins will be leading a mural project to beautify the side that faces the community. He will be engaging children from the community and the Maranatha House to leave their own mark on the wall.
- Transitions Program -
Thanks to the generous donations from our fundraising dinner, we raised over $8000 toward the Transitions Program!
This past month, Transitions Coordinators, Achemetre and Kaykette have been working with our kids to learn how to budget their incomes. While this is a challenging lesson to learn, the youth are making good progress at realizing the difference between needs and wants.
One of our boys, Danielo, recently got his driver's license. He has been practicing and he is hopeful to help with transportation needs in the future.
Enose, Enide and Yvena all recently turned 18. Last month they all moved into our transitional housing, next door to the other girls in transitional housing.
- KIDSTARTER UPDATES -
There are 9 new and exciting Kidstarter projects that are focusing on providing shelter, electricity, income through farming, and clean water all over the world! Check them out HERE.
We just launched our first Haitian lead Kidstarter! And have three others that will soon be released!
Middle schoolers from Valor Christian School International are partnering with Ncompass & Kidstarter to host 4 Kidstarter projects aimed at providing electricity for the Maranatha House Orphanage. Each group has two phases to their project, the first is to provide 3 months of gasoline for the generator. Knowing that this is not a sustainable solution, the middle schoolers are also reseaching ways to bring solar power to the orphanage. Students are interviewing staff and kids at the Maranatha House to find out exactly what their needs are, researching companies in Haiti that make solar panel systems and some are even writing grants to fund this project! Talk about empowering education!
One of Valor's middle school groups, Electric Kids, has phase one of their project FULLY FUNDED!!! We are really excited to see what these kids can do to impact their world.
