It has been an answer to so many prayers for Beth and Kimmy to be able to spend these nine weeks in Haiti this summer! Part of their time in Haiti has been spent exclusively with one of our girls, Camitha, who has cerebral palsy. Just everyone else, she strives for independence, self-help, and success. All of her physical therapy staff in Haiti has been overly impressed with with her functionality! She keeps up with all of our other kids and it is truly inspiring.
Camitha communicated to Kimmy and Beth that often times tying her shoes, helping wash clothes, and dressing are a few day-to-day things that she struggles with. With the help of the physical therapy team and Ncompass's partners, we have been able to empower her to do all of these things! A washboard has been made just to her size, and with daily practice and exercises she has been able to successfully master her day-to-day skills. Talk about kid empowerment! We can't wait to see how far she can go and are confident that with the help of her physical therapists and doctors, she will continue to keep up with everyone else!
At the end of July, Bella Martin turned 9. As most soon-to-be 9 year olds, she wanted to have a party with her friends. This time though, she wanted to use her party to help others. "I dont NEED any more presents," she told her mom. She decided to partner with Ncompass and turn her birthday party into a Micro-Event that she and her friends will not forget!
Micro-Events* are champion led events that give guests an opportunity to experience an element of the mission that the host is excited about. In Bella's case, she wanted her friends to experience life in Haiti. She created an obstacle course game that had guests carry water for a distance, and fit many kids into a small space - to experience what it might be like to share a bedroom with 10 others. They ate fried plantains, and even got to FaceTime with the children at the Maranatha House and sing together a song that they both knew.
Bella and her friends raised $750 for new clothes for the kids at the Maranatha House.
"Everybody should have a party like mine. It's just a good thing!"

*Now through the end of Novemeber, Mission Increase Foundation will match up to $10,000 of funds raised at Micro Events!!
- Haiti Updates -
Kimmy Christensen and Beth Peters left June 21st to spend their whole summer at the Maranatha House. The goal of their trip was to build relationships, network with other organizations in country and gain a deeper understanding of the culture so we can continue to serve well. Over a month into their journey, they've done some pretty cool things with the kids and have been documenting it here on our blog. Click here to read more.
Joey Jenkins lead a team of 3 others to the Maranatha House the first week in July. Together with our long term team, they painted the boys' dorm and took the kids on their first-ever field trip to the beach!
- Transitions Program -
Thanks to your support, we have brought on Kaykette and Achemetre as part-time Haitian Transitions Coordinators. - A Word from Joey -
I just returned from my 9th trip to Haiti about a two weeks ago. It is so exciting to see all the wonderful work that is being done by the team over there. They are deeply impacting so many kids' lives and we are so fortunate to have such incredible Haitian staff! It was also amazing watching Kimmy and Beth in action on our longest term trip we have ever had! They are absolute rockstars and we are so blessed by their incredible service and sacrifice! Thank you all for making 2016 such an impactful year so far. The best is yet to come!
